This site is a collection of stuff by Bob and his family.
A word about the title, Sunlightbay. My mother was raised in the small community of Sunlight, which was about 3 miles away from the nearest town, Plainview, Arkansas. Sunlight wasn’t even a town as far as I know, but it did have a school for grades one through eight. My mother finished the eighth grade at that school and that marked the end of her formal education. She would have finished the eighth grade in about 1931. By 1940 most of the people in Sunlight had probably moved away, because the Corps of Engineers bought the land around the community to build Nimrod Lake. Now, all that remains of Sunlight is a cemetery where my grandparents and some of my other relatives are buried and a campground and boat launch called Sunlight Bay. So, the term Sunlight and Sunlight Bay have meaning to me because it is where my mother was from. And, I just like the name.
Bob: I grew up on a small farm near Plainview, Arkansas in Yell County. It’s a rural area. For some perspective, Yell County is the fifth largest county in Arkansas by area. But, its population is only about 22,000. I left home for good when I graduated from high school and went to college. I attended college at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville; I left there in 1968 with BS and MS degrees and a lovely wife. I spent three years in the Navy as a Medical Service Corp Officer; I was a medical entomologist. While in the Navy I was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Viet Nam, and Okinawa. After leaving the Navy I went to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison; I left there in 1975 with a PhD, the same wife, and 2 children. I spent the next 30 plus years as a scientist with the U.S. Forest Service. During that time I lived in Louisiana, Washington, DC, and southeastern Pennsylvania. After I retired in 2007, we moved to Little Rock. My favorite hobby is bike-riding.
