{"id":2,"date":"2013-04-15T20:20:05","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T20:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2013-11-21T19:12:18","modified_gmt":"2013-11-22T01:12:18","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This site is a collection of stuff by Bob and his family.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DSC_0108.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-276\" alt=\"DSC_0108\" src=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DSC_0108-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DSC_0108-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/DSC_0108-1024x680.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>A word about the title, Sunlightbay. \u00a0My mother was raised in the small community of Sunlight, which was about 3 miles away from the nearest town, Plainview, Arkansas. \u00a0Sunlight wasn\u2019t even a town as far as I know, but it did have a school for grades one through eight. \u00a0My mother finished the eighth grade at that school and that marked the end of her formal education. \u00a0She would have finished the\u00a0eighth grade in about 1931.\u00a0\u00a0By 1940 most of the people in Sunlight had probably moved away, because the Corps of Engineers bought the land around the community to build\u00a0<a title=\"Nimrod\" href=\"http:\/\/www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net\/encyclopedia\/entry-detail.aspx?entryid=2908\" target=\"_blank\">Nimrod Lake<\/a>. \u00a0Now, all that remains of Sunlight is a cemetery where my grandparents and some of my \u00a0other\u00a0relatives are buried and\u00a0a campground and boat launch called\u00a0<a title=\"campground\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reserveamerica.com\/campgroundDetails.do?subTabIndex=0&amp;&amp;contractCode=nrso&amp;parkCode=sunl\" target=\"_blank\">Sunlight Bay<\/a>. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/cemetery.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-54\" alt=\"cemetery\" src=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/cemetery-300x107.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"107\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/cemetery-300x107.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sunlightbay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/cemetery.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>So, the term Sunlight and Sunlight Bay have meaning to me because it is where my mother was from. \u00a0And, I just like the name.<\/p>\n<p>Bob: \u00a0I grew up on a small farm near Plainview, Arkansas in Yell County. \u00a0It&#8217;s a rural area. \u00a0For some perspective, Yell County is the fifth largest county in Arkansas by area. \u00a0But, its population is only about 22,000. \u00a0I left home for good when I graduated from high school and went to college. \u00a0I attended college at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville; I left there in 1968 with BS and MS degrees and a lovely wife. \u00a0I spent three years in the Navy as a Medical Service Corp Officer; I was a medical entomologist. \u00a0While in the Navy I was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Viet Nam, and Okinawa. \u00a0After leaving the Navy I went to graduate school at the University of Wisconsin in Madison; I left there in 1975 with a PhD, the same wife, and 2 children. \u00a0I spent the next 30 plus years as a scientist with the U.S. Forest Service. \u00a0During that time I lived in Louisiana, Washington, DC, and southeastern Pennsylvania. \u00a0After I retired in 2007, we moved to Little Rock. \u00a0My favorite hobby is bike-riding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This site is a collection of stuff by Bob and his family.
